Item Description

Well-crystallized quartz specimens are VERY RARE from the famous Central Mine of Copper Country. This is a sculptural, striking and highly unusual upright two-sided rib. One side is composed of very glassy, transparent to translucent quartz points. The other side is distinctively different! Here microcrystalline and crusts of hematite nearly totally cover this side. Interesting preferential chemistry here! The broken base reveals green epidote, adding character. Complete all-around and nearly pristine, with very few broken crystals, all on the coated side. Rare and unusual quartz from this well-known mine. The mine closed in 1898, but the dumps still produce fine specimens periodically.
