Item Description

An elusive, fine quality and RARE pyrite combination matrix specimen from this obscure Virginia quarry. Two intergrown clusters of sharp, lustrous, brassy pyrite cuboctahedrons, to 4.5 cm, are aesthetically set on the shale matrix that includes RARE veins of massive, tabular, snow-white barite. Many of the crystals are enhanced by stepped-growth faces. The large cluster is nearly pristine, with just a bit of bruising. Some bruising is noted on the smaller cluster. This remains an exceptional and EXCEEDINGLY RARE combination from this locale. Ex D. Allen Penick Collection of Lexington, Virginia.
