Item Description

Splendent metallic-gray hematite has pseudomorphed a fantastic 360-degree cluster of sharp magnetite octahedrons on this outstanding floater from the famous late 1990s finds. One side is dominated by the impressive 6.0 cm octo with the sharp cavity and smaller octos at the base. A narrow side features part of the large octo and smaller octos accented by skeletal features. Surreal ribbed skeletal features on the back of the large octo add dramatic quality to this very sculptural piece. The piece displays beautifully from all sides, as it rests on the tips of three small octos. These caused quite a stir, when they first came out. These artistic pieces came from a volcano in a national park, where collecting is strictly prohibited. Supposedly. Once fairly common, you don't see many around anymore, except from recycled collections. A very choice example.
