Item Description

Prehnite combinations with datolite, laumontite and stilbite are RARE from this famous extinct quarry. This old-time sculptural two-sided plate of intergrown, glassy, translucent, rich mint-green bladed prehnite botryoids hosts scattered glassy, colorless datolite crystals on the front with a few possible stilbites on top. The back is richly peppered with sprays of acicular snow-white laumontite crystals. A very fine and aesthetic two-sided rarity from the Kay Robertson Collection # 117. Her low specimen number indicates the piece was acquired in the 1950s or earlier and collected during the active years of the quarry from 1893-1925. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). A MUST for the locality or species collector.
