Item Description

A cute two-sided hematite combination miniature from this famous locale. Classic highly lustrous, metallic-gray, stepped-growth, hematite "iron rose" plates are aesthetically intergrown with a sparing bit of matrix. The plates are beautifully accented on both sides with classic oriented wine-red rutile prisms. The glassy, 1.4 cm, terminated quartz crystal is another fine accessory. The piece looks good from either side and the couple of broken plates are certainly only a modest detraction to this excellent and classic example from this noted area. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 6165 and acquired in 1970 according to a note on the back of her card. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
