Item Description

Xenotime-(Y) is yttrium phosphate and is a minor accessory mineral in acidic and alkalic igneous rocks and pegmatites. Combination specimens of this quality are RARE from Novo Horizonte and this is a very fine example from the Matioli Collection. A 1.8 cm, lustrous, translucent, yellow-orange, tetragonal xenotime crystal forms a dramatic "bridge" between dramatic quartz spires and a wall of splendent metallic hematite plates. The very glassy, sharply terminated, quartz crystals are mostly water-clear and the nifty doubly terminated quartz is 4.0 cm long. You can see included golden rutile needles epitaxially attached to hematite in the back of the quartz crystals. Choice, rare and very showy combination material from this locale.
