Item Description

Iridescent, bubbly marcasite balls are aesthetically set on the impressive, large, mounded matrix of intergrown spherical clusters of sparkly, glassy, dogtooth calcite crystals. The striking, well-placed marcasite ball with fine color is 6.0 cm across. Parts of the calcite have a preferential iron oxide dusting adding color and contrast. A nearly pristine, artistic 360-degree specimen with only trivial out-of-sight bruising and trivial basal periphery wear. Combinations of the quality and size are RARE from the famous and historic mines at Taxco and this is an exceptional large piece. Pink calcite fluorescence. Ex Dr. Barratt Phillips Collection. 5.5 pounds or 2.5 kilos mass.
