Item Description

Dramatic and aesthetic rhodochrosite and quartz from the famous late 1970s rhodochrosite finds at the Huallypon Mine. Gemmy and lustrous, pretty pastel-pink rhombs, to about 7 mm, are beautifully clustered within the striking dense forest of water-clear sharply terminated quartz crystals. All of the rhodos are pristine, as are most of the larger quartz points. Broken crystals on the periphery are certainly only modest detractions. This is a wonderful and sculptural 360-degree combination miniature from this renowned find. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 9099 and acquired from Willard Perkin of "Perky Box" fame at the MSSC Show in 1980. This happened soon after Ken Roberts brought this iconic lot to market in the US. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). Fairly valued at $700-900.
