Item Description

Classic and excellent pseudomorph material from the famous and ancient iron mines at Elba. Mottled brown limonite has replaced a textbook sharp pyritohedron. The moderately lustrous crystal is complete all-around and nearly pristine, with only a bit of bruising along one edge. The attachment at the base is richly embedded with sparkly hematite, as a bonus. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 5998 and acquired from the American Museum in the late 1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). An outstanding pseudomorph from this classic locale.
