Item Description

Gorgeous, scintillating, gemmy light cherry-red rhodochrosite scalenohedrons, to about 5 mm, cover the top of the sculptural tapering, starkly contrasting manganite ore matrix on this rich, beautiful and classic combination from the famous Hotazel Mine. This exceptional old-timer was collected in the late 1960s or early 1970s, prior to the renowned finds at the N'Chwaning I Mine in the late 1970s. The modest bit of noted periphery wear has negligible impact to the excellent quality of this colorful and rich combination example. Hotazel specimens are rare compared to those from N'Chwaning I. Valued at $1250-1500.
