Item Description

A classic example of the famous electric yellow colored Sulfur crystals from Agrigento (Girgenti), Sicily, Italy. The piece shows sharp TEXTBOOK crystal faces with fine luster and good gemminess! Crystallized all the way around, and nearly damage free, save a few tiny imperfections. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#3452). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). Valued at $950 for the size and quality of the crystal. For reference, the species should now be spelled S-U-L-F-U-R as both the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry along with the British Royal Society of Chemistry adopted this spelling in the 1990s (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sulfur#Spelling_and_etymology)
