Item Description

Mineral specimens of any species are RARE from this underground polymetallic mine opened in 1948. This mine is one of the few Peruvian localities that has an oxidation zone, and as such azurite and malachite are rare from Peru. This is a VERY RARE, impressive and rich large azurite specimen with electric-blue microcrystals filling dramatic and sculptural large vugs in the hefty limonite matrix. The malachite seams are a classic accent. Old material from the Kay Robertson Collection # 541 and acquired from the Bradleys in the early 1950, soon after the mine opened. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). VERY RARE and rich Peru azurite with malachite!
