Item Description

A RARE rich and showy old-time two-sided combination pseudomorph from the famous mines at Butte. Bornite has pseudomorphed a well-placed stacked cluster of chalcocite plates, to 1.4 cm. More pseudos are noted on the front along with scattered splendent metallic striated enargite crystals. The back hosts more enargite crystals along with a striking rich peppering of contrasting iridescent brassy pyritohedrons. This fine old rarity, certainly prior to World War II, could be from the obscure Badger Mine at Butte. See Page 45 of the Mineralogical Record Special Issue on Butte, Vol. 33, No. 1, 2002. Ex O. Ivan Lee Collection, a prominent East Coast collector who passed away in 1952 and comes with a label of his with a 1939 date. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 2318 and dates to the early 1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). Value of such a fine old combination Butte rarity??
