Chrysocolla on Malachite & Heterogenite stalactite (Dr. B. Phillips Coll.)

Item Description

A colorful, sculptural and surprising large tapered combination stalactite from this famous closed copper mine, which is worked occasionally by locals for minerals specimens. The ends show a striking tapered hollow tube where the precipitating copper-rich fluids flowed to form the initial banded malachite stalactite. Next came a variable thickness rind of heterogenite, a rare Co-oxide. The colorful outer coating is bubbly turquoise-blue chrysocolla. A striking and unusual combination specimen from the Dr. Barratt Phillips Collection.
