Item Description

Corundum variety sapphire crystals are rare from this extinct deposit, which was Ontario's first producer of corundum. It was discovered in 1876 but was not mined until 1900 (MINDAT). Two terminated textbook hexagonal lustrous moderately translucent grayish-blue crystals are aesthetically intergrown on the contrasting albite and gneiss matrix. The 3.7 cm pristine crystal is doubly terminated. Choice and rare combination material from the locale. Probably older, but no proof.
