Item Description

An older specimen of the famous Amethysts from Guanajuato featuring sharp, lustrous, gemmy, light purple color crystals with a rarely seen layer / inclusions of golden-orange iron creating a beautiful two-tone effect. The piece resembles some of the Quartz we've seen from recent find in South Africa. The piece has a few contacts, but otherwise in good condition. The largest crystal measures 2.2 cm long. This specimen comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ). The piece comes with a typed label from Wulff on one of his famous 3x5 index cards that states the piece has a brown stain, but it's more than staining, it's a beautiful mineralogical phenomenon, and hard to find in this material.
