Item Description

An historic specimen of the famous and rarely seen "Drome Diamonds" from France. These pieces get their name in allusion to the famous "Herkimer Diamonds" from New York, which feature similar predominant pyramidal faces, and colorless transparent internal quality. This lovely 1.3 cm Quartz crystal is nestled inside of a septarian nodule and appears to be damage free as far as I can tell with naked eye. The piece comes with a few old labels, only one of which has an attribution to Hamel Mining and MInerals of Los Angeles California. Another old German label states that the specimen was from a "new find" (Neufund) and that specimens have been collected since 1890. I don't know how "new" this piece is, my guess based upon the labels is several decades back. Hard to find material on the market, and certainly worth picking up if you collect Quartz or European minerals. The labels refer to the locality as Mirabaud, which is an old French nickname for the varietal
