Item Description

Axinite is uncommon from the Alpine-type clefts at Tormiq, well-known for worldclass epidote, clinozoisite and titanite specimens. This is a highly deceptive and aesthetic two-sided piece with distinctively different character and color. One side of the sculptural jackstraw cluster is composed of classic very glassy and lustrous, clove-brown axinite blades. The other side is totally different looking as the axinite blades here are coated or included with green chlorite. The impressive large 3.7 cm crystal is doubly terminated and is visible on both sides, both glassy and coated! Strange chemistry here. This exceptional specimen is from the Herb Obboda dealer stock and was valued by him at $650, more than 6 years ago. It is worth more today.
