Item Description

The famous trap rock Upper New Street Quarry is renowned for outstanding Zeolite Group specimens. It was active from from 1893 to 1925, with some collecting taking place later in the 1980s. This is a very fine old-time specimen of lustrous, translucent, tan stilbite blades as bowties and bulbs aesthetically set on the basalt matrix. Ex Anthony Schumacker Collection and collected pre-1940, according to the three accompanying labels. Schumacher (1894-1965) and his brother Ernest were avid New Jersey collectors and he was the uncle of mineral dealer Larry Conklin. Ex Robert Drift and Eric Stanchich Collections. This is an extremely fine older specimen from this noted locale.
