Item Description

To the best of my knowledge, this material is only found in one place in the world, more specifically in the form of outcrops along Texas Highway 16, approximately 9 miles north of the town of Llano. It has a unique distinction of featuring blue colored Quartz - which is rare in its own right around the world - which appear in the form of phenocrysts (blocky crystal forms frozen into rock). The surrounding host rock is a volcanic rhyolite which is dotted with small spots of Microcline. The Quartz is what really makes this material popular with collectors. The rare color combined with the stark contrasting of the accompanying hot rock makes for dazzling polished material, and seen in this nearly 50 carat stone! These gems are hard to find on the market these days, this piece actually came out of an old collection in Texas. Enjoy!
