Item Description

The Hukawng Valley in northern Burma is one of the oldest documented sources of Burma in the world. The Chinese recorded the occurrence of Amber at this locality as far back as the 1st Century. This material locally has a the nickname of being called "Burmite", but it's only a trade name as the material is still the same chemically as Amber from other parts of the world. This material, is known as Hu 'Po ' or 'tiger soul ' and is valued as an ingredient in medicines as well as magical charms. In 2014, Researchers from Oregon State University discovered a preserved example of sexual reproduction in flowering plants in a 100-million-year-old Amber fossil from this locality. It is thought to be the oldest evidence of sexual reproduction ever found in a flowering plant. This material is some of the oldest and most well-preserved Amber in the world. This particular gem is a lovely "Roval Cabochon" cut stone with a gorgeous honey orange hue. It's quite gemmy and would look beautiful in a pendant or loose in a gem box for display.
