Ametrine (natural bicolor Quartz)

This is a unique variety of Quartz from the finest occurrence in the world. Ametrine is a naturally occurring purple and yellow bi-color variety that is formed by a unique twin law ("Brazil Law Twinning") where two separate individually colored crystals are intergrown to form an alternating "radiation" pattern of purple and yellow triangles when viewed down the c axis. The two colors are oriented based upon their position inside the crystal to create the famous bicolor gemstones. This particular gem has an "Emerald" cut with a 40/60 yellow to purple ratio along with nearly eye clean clarity. This is a truly beautiful stone and when Ametrine is well cut, it looks amazing. It has come to my attention that the mine is no longer in production of this material and the market has quickly "dried up".
