Description:A very rare locality specimen of Cornish silver! Very little survives of the already-rare silver specimens which must once have been found here. It was too valuable as smelt ore. This is a hefty, solid specimen of CRYSTALLIZED acanthite, on both sides and especially on the upper horizon. Minute silver wires are clearly seen in the interstices. It is one of the least ugly such examples I have seen, in fact...English acanthite not usually being known for beauty, at least it is somewhat displayable and not just a lump of ore! ex. AK Bourland collection, with label. A note on the back of the label indicates purchase in 1990 from oldtime London dealership, Gregory, Bottley & Lloyd. Approx. 70 grams, so it is hefty for the size - not surprising as it is the best kind of silver ore concentrate mother nature can make for the miners!
