Item Description

Here we have richly colored specimen of Rose Quartz from a world-famous locality on an island in the middle of the Jequitinhonha River. Crystallized Rose Quartz is not common in the mineral world, and this is a showy and eye-catching specimen featuring beautiful strong pink colored crystals which have formed a complete group off matrix. Originally I imagine that these crystals formed on a preexisting layer of Quartz, and later separated leaving a smooth surface on the back of the piece. The back of the specimen looks like banded Agate, as it shows white and pink "rings" around the periphery. Very attractive, and the color is quite good considering the size of the crystals. From the collection of Rolando Gioia (a contributor to new definitive book on Brazilian minerals: "Minerais e Pedras Preciosas do Brasil").
