Item Description

A predominant, gemmy, beautifully colored prism of Tourmaline is associated with a few smaller Tourmaline crystals along with a gemmy, doubly-terminated Quartz and purplish groups of Lepidolite. It must be noted that lepidolite is no longer a valid mineral species, and according to the scattered information we found, lepidolite is defined as a mineral in the so-called Polylithionite-Trilithionite series. We're still calling it lepidolite for the purposes of this specimen. The main Tourmaline crystal has a gorgeous greenish-blue termination at the top which transitions into a very thin colorless band, and gives way to a strong pink through the majority of the prism, but the other end is actually terminated and shows a greenish-yellow hue. The piece is nearly a complete "floater", but the secondary Tourmaline crystal is contacted on one end. The weight of the specimen is 10.02 grams. From the collection of Rolando Gioia (a contributor to new definitive book on Brazilian minerals: "Minerais e Pedras Preciosas do Brasil").
