Item Description

A gemmy, prismatic single crystal of Tourmaline with a lovely green hue is highlighted by distinct pink zoning along the exterior edges of the prism and the termination. If you look down the "c" axis, you can actually see that this is what some would call a "reverse watermelon" effect, as it has a green "core" with a pink rind on the outside. The termination is not damaged, but it has an incomplete growth, where it obviously grew against something (possibly another Tourmaline crystal) in the pocket. Overall, it's a striking and eye-catching gem crystal from an unknown locality in Minas Gerais. Weight of the specimen is 7.01 grams. From the collection of Rolando Gioia (a contributor to new definitive book on Brazilian minerals: "Minerais e Pedras Preciosas do Brasil").
