Item Description

A classic specimen of the famous Gypsum crystals from Naica. This arguably has to be the most significant Gypsum locality in the world as the largest crystal recorded so far measures 12 meters (39 feet) in length, 4 m (13 ft) in diameter and 55 tons in weight! Some of these gigantic crystals have taken at least 500,000 years to form! With that said, not only are the largest Gypsum crystals found here, but some of the FINEST quality crystals have come from Naica. This piece features a LARGE GEM QUALITY / WATER CLEAR, colorless, very sharp, textbook monoclinic crystal of Gypsum ("Selenite"). The crystal has a textbook termination with a lovely four-side pyramid. The piece is so impressive (measuring over a FOOT LONG!) that I couldn't imagine a better overall specimen for the size. Valued at $3,000. From the collection of Senator / Dr. Miguel Romero of Teuhuacan, Mexico (Collection #4804).
