Item Description

A beautiful Calcite display specimen from the historic Ojuela mine in Mexico. The piece is in great condition overall, and features dozens of very eye-catching, amazingly lustrous, WATER-CLEAR to translucent, white to colorless, highly compressed rhombohedra of Calcite intergrown to create a very three-dimensional specimen. The matrix is a thin layer of brown gossan. The largest Calcite measures 5.1 cm across. It's difficult to capture the depth of the piece in photos, as it really has a wonderful "flower"-like form as truly looks great from several angles. The combination of the almost "wet" vitreous luster and fine clarity of the crystals is excellent for the species and the locality. A few of the Calcites show minor chipping along the edges, but for the most part, they are all in good shape. This mine is not necessarily known for its superior Calcites, and this cabinet specimen is certainly a great example of this classic material. A beautiful display piece from one of the most well known localities in Mexico. Valued at $1,750 in the inventory.
