Item Description

Nissonite is an exceptionally rare hydrated copper magnesium hydroxy phosphate that is only found in FOUR localities in the world. This lovely thumbnail specimen just happens to be from the type locality, the Llanada Copper Mine in San Benito County, California. The species was named in 1966 after William Nisson, who was a mineral collector and amateur mineralogist who was the first person to make note of the material. The piece hosts micro blue-green Nissonite crystal "sprays" and crystal masses on host rock matrix. We have photographed the specimen with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the quality and enhance the detail. If you collect rarities or species from the type locality, don't miss out on this attractive and very hard to find specimen.
