Item Description

Mount McIver is a mountain within the State Forest in central Victoria. I can't find much in way of reference for Gold specimens coming from this locality, but I'm copying the information from the label. I thought it could possibly be from Mt. Ivor, Victoria, Australia where the famous Latrobe Nugget was discovered. This piece features a patch of rich golden-yellow colored, very lustrous / splendent, metallic crystallized / crystalline Gold sitting on grey Quartz matrix. Very beautiful up close as you can see from the micro photos that we took with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens. Valued at $1,700. From the worldwide collection of famed Italian mineral collector, field collector and author, Francesco Bedogne of Sondrio, Italy (Collection #23). Bedogne wrote dozens of articles and several books about the mineralogy of Italian Alpine localities such as Val Bregaglia, Val Masino, Val Codera, Val Spluga, Valtellina and the famous Val Malenco. He was also the founder of the Valtellinese Mineralogical Institute.
