Item Description

A very rarely seen specimen of Molybdenite on matrix from Malartic, Quebec, Canada. I honestly can't remember seeing a piece from this area, even though it's reported from about a half dozen mines. It features sharp, well-formed, metallic, bright silvery colored hexagonal crystals of Molybdenite measuring up to 2.3 cm across aesthetically sitting on Quartz matrix with Chalcopyrite and tiny spots of an unknown blue-green mineral. Good shape overall, though the main crystal is not 100% complete due to intergrowth in the pocket. From the worldwide collection of famed Italian mineral collector, field collector and author, Francesco Bedogne of Sondrio, Italy (Collection #1593). Bedogne wrote dozens of articles and several books about the mineralogy of Italian Alpine localities such as Val Bregaglia, Val Masino, Val Codera, Val Spluga, Valtellina and the famous Val Malenco. He was also the founder of the Valtellinese Mineralogical Institute.
