Item Description

I believe this is the first specimen of Molybdenite that we've handled from the A W Mine in New South Wales. This is not the more commonly seen Kingsgate material, and MUCH rarer on the market. This piece is a beautiful "flower"-like group of bright silvery colored hexagonal crystals of metallic Molybdenite free of matrix. The piece is in great shape overall, and even though it was somewhat difficult to photograph, it's showy and eye-catching, especially from this less common locality. You can see the crystals grew is tight foliated "books" like Mica, and really are beautiful up close. The piece is in pretty good condition save a contact on the front edge. These are remarkably difficult to find on the market, and this piece is certainly at least 40 years old if not more. From the collection of Senator / Dr. Miguel Romero of Teuhuacan, Mexico (Collection #2060).
