Item Description

A beautiful and showy display specimen of Hemimorphite from the world famous Ojuela Mine in Mexico. The quality of the crystals on this specimen is not only fine for the Ojuela, but anywhere in the world. Several superb quality, sharp, gemmy, highly lustrous, radial white to colorless "pinwheels" of Hemimorphite measuring up to 2.3 cm are sprinkled with bright sparkling razor sharp crystals of yellow Adamite on gossan matrix. Typically the Hemimorphite specimens from this area are not very desirable as they can be kind of "lumpy", but not only does this one have great aesthetic form, but it shows free-standing "pinwheels" on matrix! No real damage that I can see with the naked eye, except the periphery where it was removed from the pocket wall. There is a saw mark on the bottom to allow the piece to display without the aid of a base or clay. The piece truly stands out as one of the best examples in this size range that I've seen from Ojuela. Valued at $1500 for quality, aesthetics and relative obscurity on the market these. The piece dates from the 1970s. From the collection of Senator / Dr. Miguel Romero of Teuhuacan, Mexico (Collection #3841). The piece is accompanied by labels from Miguel's personal collection, plus a label from Peter Megaw, and a few others without any attribution.
