Item Description

A beautiful and sculptural display specimen of Pyrite from Naica. Typically the Pyrite specimens from this area are not very desirable as they can be kind of "lumpy", but not only does this one have great aesthetic form, but it shows free-standing crystals on matrix! Upon close inspection, I believe that in some cases the Pyrites have actually formed pseudomorphs after Pyrrhotite, but there are some spots where it's just Pyrite. The matrix is a mix of mostly Quartz and Sphalerite with massive Pyrite on the base. No real damage that I can see with the naked eye, and the piece truly stands out as one of the best examples in this size range that I've seen from Naica. Valued at $950 for quality, aesthetics and obscurity on the market. The piece dates from the 1970s. From the collection of Senator / Dr. Miguel Romero of Teuhuacan, Mexico (Collection #4101).
