Item Description

At first glance, I thought this might be a South African Rhodo, but the catalogue number confirms that it's from Santa Eulalia. The confusion is easily understood as the tremendous QUALITY and COLOR of the Rhodos is as good as it gets for the mine, regardless of size. Typically, the Potosi Mine Rhodochrosites are a softer pink hue, and typicaly opaque, rarely gemmy, let alone GEM QUALITY like the crystals on this specimen. Razor sharp, highly lustrous, intense red color narrow scalenohedral crystals of Rhodochrosite measuring up to 7 mm sit atop a ligther pink layer of Rhodochrosite on matrix on this beautiful and fine quality small miniature specimen. The close up photos tell the story as these are some of the most lustrous and gemmy crystals I've seen from the mine, regardless of size. The piece is not 100% perfect, but the majority of the crystals are damage free. I can't stress enough the top gemminess, color and "wet" looking luster on this piece. The specimen dates back to the mid to late 1970s. From the collection of Senator / Dr. Miguel Romero of Teuhuacan, Mexico (Collection #4952).
