Item Description

This long storied historic U.S. locality has produced some of the world's finest Calcite and Fluorite specimens extant. Despite the fact that there are only a handful of minerals found at the Elmwood mine, some of them are among the most recognizable minerals in the world. This wonderful large cabinet piece hosts a predominant, large, very sharp, highly lustrous, rather gemmy, beautiful golden orange scalenohedron of Calcite with a few secondary Calcites, and crystallized white Barite on the base. This piece is in fairly good shape overall for the size, though one end is contacted, so it's not doubly-terminated, and it does have a separation mark on the back where another Calcite once grew. These pieces are well known classics from the U.S. and this one really has it all from the standpoint of quality, size and displayability. Valued at $1,500 retail. Weight is 869 grams.
