Time Left:Auction Is Closed
Description:Cumbria calcites are English classics (mid to late 1800s) and this is a gorgeous and outstanding, large single crystal example. The upper half of the striking, strongly modified scalenohedron is absolutely limpid and looks like cut glass. The faces refract the bit of iron oxide crust on the back into extremely interesting forms. Crystals of this size and quality are highly sought after and are rarely available, especially at auction! It certainly dates to prior to World War I. Nearly pristine: only Very trivial termination and edge wear. Ex Harvard University and George Elling Collections. Valued at $2000-2500. This is a SUPERB quality jewel-like crystal that is over 100 years old!
