Item Description

Lustrous, translucent, colorless to oxide-included, blocky anglesite crystals to 1.3 cm are scattered in a boxwork gossan-lined vug on this showy and excellent old-time specimen from the famous mines at Phoenixville. Specimens of this quality date to the mid-1800s, as primary ore production was from 1847 to the 1860s! The sides and sawed base of the piece reveals that the hefty matrix is gossan, galena and sphalerite (two types: rubyjack: and small GEM, green crystals). Classic, fine and uncommon material from this renowned, early American locale. Ex Richard Hauck Collection and comes with an old handwritten label on the base.
