Item Description

Lustrous, tapered, green pyromorphite spindles to 8 mm totally cover the curved gossan crust on this very rich and showy, old-time specimen from the historic Wheatley Mine. The mine was started in 1851 and closed in the 1860s during the Civil War! Truly old-time material. Many of the crystals have hoppered terminations and many are also hollow. Scattered bruising is noted, but is a minimal detraction. This remains a very rich and most excellent example of the species and locale, especially when you consider the age of the piece. Ex Dr. Gary Hansen Pyromorphite Collection (sold in 2005) and comes with an old label. Most such Phoenixville pyromorphites do not have a direct mine attribution, such as this fine piece does. very rare and desirable specimen
