Description:A striking and exceptional rhodochrosite from the famous 1970s and 80s finds at the Nchwaning I Mine. Glassy, translucent, deep cherry-red rhombs form beautiful intergrown, flattened, radial aggregates with outstanding aesthetics. Some people call these the 'horse-apple' form, which is relatively rare for the finds. These are named for their similarity to the large nubby fruit of the American Osage-orange. There are even a few attached scalenohedrons. The backlit photo highlights the gorgeous, famous color saturation. Just a bit of periphery wear is noted. The back has been sawed to enhance the display view and the backlighting-induced translucency. Highly desirable rhodochrosite, only available from advanced, recycled old collections. Valued at $2000
