Description:An outstanding, old-time combination specimen from Orange County, New York. Sharp, lustrous, black, spinel octahedrons to 1.9 cm are aesthetically set in a matrix of sharply crystallized, grayish-brown, augite crystals. The superb, doubly terminated augite crystal on the edge of the piece is 3.8 cm. This is classic and very seldom available Orange County material and is certainly over 100 years old. The O'Neil Mine (iron mine in magnetite ore) in Orange County closed in 1880. Ex Alain Martaud Collection and comes with an old label in French.
