Item Description

When it comes to Jelly or Fire Opal, there are only a handful of localities that produce fine gems. Typically most people associate Fire / Jelly Opal with the warm red, orange and yellow stones from Queretaro, Mexico. Recently, a new discovery of remarkably similar Opal was made in southeastern Madagascar in a locality called Bemia. A brief description of the material can be found on GIA's website at the following link: http://www.gia.edu/research-resources/gems-gemology/issues/summer2010-contents/summer2010-simoni.html . This material is actually unbelievably difficult to obtain, and the only reason we have some is because we know the man who dug it. Very few people know about or have seen this material, and if you're an Opal collector, be sure to pick this one up for your collection. This stone is a gorgeous, fiery lemon color "Round" cut gemstone. It is very attractive and showy with that typical jelly-like appearance, but has a lovely jelly clarity. Aside from the few gems that we had to offer, we only we only saw two of these stones in Tucson last year, and according to our friend, there may not be any more for a while, due to the inaccessability of the locality. A great chance to own a good quality, Fire Opal/Jelly Opal from an unusual locality.
