Item Description

Axinite is typically considered a collector's stone. This is a beautiful amber to cognac colored gem with an "Oval Brilliant" cut. Depending upon the light under which it's viewed, the stone can show flashes of golden, yellow-green and a clove brown/purple hue. If you flip the gem over and view it through the pavillion, you can actually see slightly different colors. Axinite rarely forms in crystals that are gemmy or thick enough for faceting. These stones are very rare considering that rough is extremely difficult to find not to mention that this area of Pakistan which produced this material has been dry for years. I was able to purchase this gem from an old source who had some fine quality stones in their inventory. It is difficult to find Axinite in clean stones, so inclusions are accepted by most collectors and dealers. This stone is VIRTUALLY EYE CLEAN, which is remarkable for what it is. The gem shows trichroism as it does a slight change color when rotated in different directions. Axinite is actually hard enough that it can be worn in jewelry, though it is a bit brittle. A great rare gem for any collector of these type of stones. Valued at $124.00 retail based upon the size and superb clarity.
