Item Description

Within the last 25-30 years, there have been some very impressive Emeralds coming out of the Copperbelt Province in Zambia. The best of these gems could easily be mistaken for their famous Colombian counterparts, which are the finest Emeralds in the world. The crystal that produced this gem was mined about 10 years ago, and was only recently cut / polished into the gem you see before you. This beautiful high-domed "Round Cabochon" cut gem has a gorgeous intense green hue. It should be noted that Emerald is classified as a "Type III" gemstone (in the same classification as Tourmaline) which means that virtually all gems have some sort of inclusions, and "clean" stones are nearly impossible to find, so a stone like this is perfectly acceptable for the material. It's becoming increasingly difficult to obtain fine Emerald gems from Zambia, as major gem buyers (specifically Tiffany's in New York) control a large part of the market. This stone is valued at $400 per carat retail, so it's a great bargain for the starting bid. A wonderful gem for any collector of the material or somebody who appreciates worldwide Emeralds.
