Item Description

Brazil has long been one of the main sources of gem quality Amethyst in the world, and stones from Pau D'Arco are some of the most intensely colored and sought after examples on the market. They rival the finest Zambian Amethyst or the classic Siberian gems from over 100 years ago. This "Round Brilliant" cut stone is a great Pau D'Arco Amethyst with a strong purple color that is highlighted by desirable "red flash" which is best seen in sunlight. I can actually see some very slight pink and blue tones depending upon the light under which the stone is viewed. These gems are very hard to find on the market because the majority of the production is under contract with a few jewelers around the world, so stones are only available to purchase from retailers. This is a great opportunity to get your hands on one of these amazing Amethysts for your collection, a piece of jewelry, or a gift for somebody with a February birthday. The name "amethyst" comes from the Greek "a-methystos" meaning "not drunken,". Wine goblets were often carved from it, and the gemstone still symbolizes sobriety to this day. Traditionally, the color purple has been a symbol for royalty and Amethyst was often used for monarchs and leaders throughout history. It was, considered to be the stone of bishops, who still often wear amethyst rings. In Tibet, amethyst is considered to be sacred to Buddha and rosaries are often fashioned from it. Amethyst would be very expensive, were not for its widespread availability, as it is one of the few purple gems out there.
