Item Description

Orange iron oxides strikingly and colorfully coat quartz points with strange looking nubby secondary quartz overgrowths. "Eisenkiesel" is a German term, translating to Iron Quartz. It is a quartz that is colored red, orange or brown by hematite inclusions. Glassy, translucent, greenish-gray fluorite cubes, to 1.4 cm, have striking stepped-growth prism faces and are a super and contrasting accessory. The base is massive grayish-green fluorite. Combination specimens from here are seldom on the market. Bright purple fluorite fluorescence. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 5939 and probably acquired in the 1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). Undoubtedly older material, but no proof.
