Item Description

Gem smoky quartz gwindels of this very fine quality are rare from this less well-known Canton Uri valley. The very glassy, highly lustrous doubly terminated twisted gwindel has fine smoky color and is stunningly water-clear. An exceptional 360-degree gwindel in excellent shape. Bruised tips on one termination, a trivial ding along the crest and contacting lower on both sides, where other crystals once lay, but with no damage, per se are noted, but certainly have negligible impact to the overall outstanding quality of this rare gwindel from this locality. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 5320 and acquired from the American Musuem in early 1968. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). A RARE Swiss classic.
