Item Description

At first glance, one might think this is Azurite with Malachite from a contemporary locality in a country like China or Laos, but it's actually Azurite with CONICHALCITE from this historic Lavrion District in Greece. Mining at Lavrion (Laurium) dates to the beginning of the Bronze Age, ca. 3200 BC! This piece features superb, sparkling, rich blue color, radiatings groups of Azurite sitting on a bit of oxidized reddish-brown matrix. As mentioned before, there are dozens of emerald green "balls" of semi-resinous / velvety Conichalcite that can be seen in various spots on the specimen. A showy display piece of this hard to find material. Good luster, size, form and a pleasing color combination. Valued at $700.
