Item Description

A lovely full sized thumbnail specimen from this most unlikely of localities. I've never seen a piece of Calcite from San Nicolas in Sonora, Mexico, but Miguel's mineral catalogue confirms that the number matches the entry and the locality is legit. A trio of very well-formed, sharp, lustrous, striated, colorless rhombic scalenohedra of Calcite measuring up to 1.8 cm across are intergrown to form an eye-catching and fine quality specimen. There is a tiny bit of attached matrix on the base, but you can mostly see Calcite from every direction. Looking closely, I really don't see any damage on the top / display side of the piece, and it does have a contact on the bottom, but it's very fine quality from the top. The crystals are gemmy in areas, and the luster really stands out when you view the piece in person. A great specimen to add to a thumbnail collection, a Calcite suite or a collection of Mexican minerals. The oddball locality and pedigree of the specimen alone are worth it. From the collection of Senator / Dr. Miguel Romero of Teuhuacan, Mexico (Collection #4785).
