Item Description

An exceptional and aesthetic combination miniature from this famous Virginia trap rock quarry, that has produced the United States' finest apophyllite specimens. A glassy, blocky, 2.8 cm crystal is nicely set on mint-green prehnite covering the basalt matrix and is beautifully accented by smaller crystals. Complete all-around and in great shape. You barely notice the bruised secondary crystal on the front and the modest edge wear to the top back of the large crystal is out-of-sight in the fine frontal display views. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 4857 and acquired from the Sol Shale Collection sale in 1966. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). This very fine OLD-TIME piece is probably from the first great find here in 1953, as the second great find was in 1967.
